A few weeks' ago I posted a request on Instagram to help me on a networking mission in Lockdown 2.0. The extraordinary kindness of friends and strangers has been staggering. Having moved to Wiltshire for the foreseeable I had decided it would be a good idea to focus my time in getting to know interesting folk who are up to innovative and interesting things. It has been hugely energizing meeting up for walks/zooms with friends of friends and I have more than surpassed my goal of meeting 5 new people a week!
I have met a lovely nurse who is also an aspiring writer, we even joined a Women in Journalism zoom with about fifty other women talking about how to expand one's writing work! I have met up with old friends for muddy stomps, former colleagues, a headmistress & leadership consultant, entrepreneurs, an employment lawyer, a founder of a start-up in the music industry, a membership consultant and even a close protection officer! It has been the most eclectic and fascinating experiment which I hope to continue.
On top of people's willingness to introduce me to their little black books, I have been blown away by people's kind offers to help in other ways too. People have sent me job descriptions of things that made them think of me, offered to talk through mad business ideas with me. One friend has even overhauled my CV in order to get it to a point where I could apply for a joy at her firm! Former bosses have been in touch to remind me of dormant skills and my employability; people have said kind and encouraging things about this ridiculous blog-splurge. So, this one is just an acknowledgement and thank you for the extraordinary kindness of people.
